Tilt the motor up and put it on the travel locks (hopefully they are not corroded so you can't move them). Then put a towel over the lower section of the outboard and lean over the lower section putting your weight on the lower section and watch the transom as you do this - some have seen it move an inch, some have not seen no movement (preferred).

That's a good thing and will let you enjoy the boat until the floor gets too soft or the transom gets too wet. Make sure you check around the bilge drain at the bottom of the transom. Look and see if there are any chips of gelcoat missing around where the plug goes. If there is a garboard plug, remove the screws in the outer portion and look at the screw threads and see if there is any mush on them. I would then seal the screw holes with silicone caulk or 3m 4000.
I know that when I rebuilt mine I did the bounce test and it looked solid but when I decided to cut it, the core was pulp.

Depends on the depth of what you do to it. Figure a couple hundred minimum.

I replaced the wood in my transom with Seacast. I have done 5 seasons now, and it works perfect.
It is a big job to get rid of the wood, check out my forum page if you want to see how I did mine.

At the time I had some problems with carpal tunnel syndrome, and it took me two weeks working only in the evenings and in the weekends.i also had water in my stringers. It's very important to get rid of all the wood, but it is not impossible. I would rent a chainsaw with a long sword, since that removes the wood but does nothing to the fiberglass. My chainsaw only reached down 2/3rds.
I hope this helps you
