Battery Issue

Advance auto parts currently has the best deep cycle battery and they come with 12 months of free replacement. Wal-Mart used to have two year free replacement but I haven't seen them in awhile and I think it was because they were getting hosed on replacements. I ended up buying group 29's because they have the same amount of power (115ah) in a slightly smaller footprint than the group 31's.

The Cabela's X900 Pure Lead AGM Battery will have a 4 year full replacement warranty.  I have a friend who is a guide and they even honor the warranty if you use it professionally every day.  These are not cheap, but will hold a charge very well and you just can't beat a 4 year replacement warranty with no pro-rate. 

These also go on sale a couple times a year - check your nearby store - you may be able to get a deal!

FYI: Batteries were too low to be charged.  AND not replaced under warranty because the warranty has a clause that they won't be replaced if voltage is below a certain level : / .  Lesson learned, One needs to take care of their trolling motor batteries.  They're not like starting/house battery that is connected to my engine alternator and always getting juice.

Reviving yet another old thread.  After having persistent issues with my trolling motor batteries (again), I finally figured out the issue was actually my charger.  The charger itself is fine, but the ring terminal connections were shot!  So corroded that when I gave one a quick tug it came right off.  I replaced with better heat shrink terminals and all issues seem to be resolved.  It's a ProMariner charger, the brand 'Worst Marine' sells.  Appears to be an 'ok' charger, but the electrical connections were really poor.  They were heat shrinked originally, so it's a bit odd.  When I re-connected everything, I used some dialectic grease.  I was having moisture issues in the bow hatch where these batteries reside, which also should be fixed by a new Tempress hatch.  It turns out the 30 year old hatch wasn't keeping out much water.
