go slow AS?

Has anybody ever depowered an Osprey 200 so that it won't go 30 mph at cruise?  If so, does the hull really balk at going slow, down off plane?  I wonder what a 40 or 50 hp motor would be like on the thing?  And what is that boat like in seaway going slower?  Of course, I don't think it'll be out of the snow and ice until sometime next year, but I can dream.

I think you'll have a problem getting over the bow wave to get on plane. You need some power to get on plane. If you don't want to get on plane, that's the way to go.

This is a semi v planing hull. It is designed to plane somewhere between 27-30 mph by design. You may  want to find semi displacement hull that runs effeciantly at a lower speed. What do you want to do with the boat? Something like a water taxi?

I think a 50 would plane a 20 footer.  Scott's 222 with twin 75s runs really well on one engine - we did some experimenting a couple years ago and were surprised at how well the boat ran on a single.  A lightly-loaded 20 Osprey with a 50 and the right prop would probably plane and run in the mid 20s.  These hulls don't need a lot of HP - in fact I would consider a 222 with anything over a 200 to be overpowered.  CCPs are a little different story...
