Loose/stripped hardtop mounts
« on: February 09, 2019, 09:57:01 AM »
The rear mount locations for the hard top on my 225 explorer are loose and or stripped out. It looks like I will have to remove hardtop to get to the area on structure that needs to be repaired. What’s the best way to repair the area, and to refsten hardtop in conjunction with repair? Seems that it may be a bit challenging because of the location.

Hey thanks for the help. Appreciate it. Once it gets above 20° here and the wrap comes off I'll get you some pics of the stripped out screw holes on the superstructure. I thought maybe since this is a aquasport forum, and everyone knows what a 225 explorer with a hardtop looks like, maybe I'd get a little advice or maybe someone had the same problem and could share their experience so I could be just a little more prepared for the repair once the weather got better. Impressive work with the Emojis though. 👍.

I have a 245 Explorer with a factory hard top. I haven't looked at my rear leg mounting bolts.  But I can tell you the rest of them are thru bolted.  I suspect the rear ones are as well.  You should be able to gain access to inside the wings.  The starboard side is easy to get into by removing the inside panel.  The port side has a cubby you can get in thru or if your lucky a speaker you can remove.  If they are not thru bolted I would thru bolt them with a nice backing plate.  Hardtops were either installed at the factory or by the dealer as an option.  Who knows how the dealers put them on.
