Advice on Inside Liner

Hey everybody!

Today I removed the floor and gas tank from my 1974 222. When I was looking at what to cut for the transom I realized that the inside liner would be "in my way". Any tips on how I should cut it and/or reattach it? Should the liner be attached to the hull sides?

I gave myself about 18" back from the transom for working area.  I tabbed in 12" out from transom in hull sides and floor.  There are many rebuilds in the 222 forum with transit rebuilds.

Thank you, Marcel! Great video of your transom rebuild. I subscribed to your page and look forward to the other videos. Are you going to keep the inside liner or remove it and run your floors up to the hull sides?

I've heard to keep the liner and use it as a guide when it's time to lay down the flooring.

I think I'm going to keep the liner for 2 reasons, I don't want to deal with all the fairing to make the hull sides look nice and also for the floor reference, the lip is already there to lay new floor on top.  I will probably bond it tighter to the hull with some thickened epoxy, right now it's only held on at the top.  Looking forward to seeing your build!  Post pics.

Great advice! I've seen it done both ways and wasn't sure what would be best. Using the liner lip for a flooring reference sounds smart. Ill start posting pictures soon!

The only real reason to cut the liner is to gain a bit of toe room.  That’s no small thing, but the trade is a lot more time and work, especially in the fairing of the exposed hull sides.  Only you can decide if it’s worth it.
