19.1 rebuild

I bought this 1970 19.1 the other day, the floor and transom are no good, but the hull is in good shape. A center console came with the boat but I'm not sure if it is the original console, it seems to short, it is 28" high x 36" wide. Here are some photo's. Winter is settling in my area and I hope to get the floor out and start in the transom in the spring. I appreciate any ideas and suggestions.

That looks to be the original console.  The fuel tank was inside the console and originally 18 gals.

theres a few 19-1 rebuilds here, I've got a few pics of mine in my album with the floor torn out if you want to see the stringer layout.  Are you replacing the transom too?

Thanks for the links to your rebuild. Yes I will be replacing the transom, it is rotten and the stringers I believe are bad as well. The previous owner cut away a opening to the front and I can see that both stringer have big cracks in them so I believe water has soaked into them. I'm going to remove the front railing, if you know anyone looking for one, I will part with it.
 I want to enclose the transom and install either a jack plate or a port-bracket for the outboard, any thoughts on that idea ?

personally i've never been a fan of boats this small with brackets on them, heard too many stories of bad handling but i've never actually been on one.  If you're going to repower it I'd definitely build the transom up to hang a 25" motor on it, that'll give you a little more freeboard back there.

Hello,

I have a gas tank question. Will a 75 gallon aluminium fuel tank made by Florida Marine Tanks fit into this boat, the tank measures 35"(L) x 17.5"(H) x 31"(W). Due to winter season the boat is cover up and I do not have access to it. Somebody locally is selling this tank for $50 and was hoping someone knows if would fit into the boat towards the bow.

I’ve never owned a 19-1, but based on my 200 CCP, that tank is too wide and too high to sit between the stringers and below deck.  That’s not to say you couldn’t make it work, but it would need to be under the casting deck, or extending up into the console.  My tank for my ccp was 11 high and 24 wide at the top, 20 at the bottom.

I agree with mshugg - the original tank in a 191 was above the sole, inside the console. If you're gutting the boat you can put one below but it'll still need to be a low profile one.

you'll be better off getting a tank that fits the one you described above won't fit between the factory stringers and is probably too high.
Moeller makes a few that will fit between the factory stringers, up to about 35 gal is all you're going to squeeze in there without modifying the available width between the stringers.  These boats are light, should be able to run a long time on even 25 gal, how much do you need.  Check Great Lakes Skipper & Jamestown Distributors now & then for deals on tanks but you're gonna want to know what'll fit first.

That tank sounds way to big.  I put a tank beloew the deck of my 22.2 FB and couldnt go higher than 14".  I also had to cut out center stringer.  Not sure what the stringer lay out on 19' are?

Just measured my original 50 gallon tank from my 1972 19’6 for you. It’s L63” X W21.5” X H8.5” inches of course. Hope this helps! Cheers T

Add 2.5” inches to the height to account for the vent and fill ports, almost forgot.
