1990 22ft ccp live well and fish box????
« on: February 12, 2015, 07:44:54 PM »
The live well is in the front of the console under the seat. My questions are where does it intake water from? I have no thru hull fitting that I can find. Also when it is running where does it drain? I don't see where it goes out? Does it just drain into the bottom of the boat and the bilge pump pumps it out? As for the large coffin fishbox in the front of the boat under the floor. It has a pump inside it also. Where does it get water from? It too seems to drain into the bottom of the boat?? Is that correct?

Fish Box - my CCP is the older model and has the above deck coffin box.  It drains out a thru hull on the starboard side around mid ship.  If you don't have any thru hulls in that area, I would assume that the in deck fishbox drains into the bottom and heads to the bilge.

Live well - Do you have a pickup anywhere under the boat?  I would assume their is something in place to pump water into it?  As far as drainage, I would assume it drains into the bilge as well.  If there is no pickup or a way for water to pump in, the only way it could get water if you put it there yourself??

A picture of the inside of the live well would be helpful.

John nice looking boat! I have your pic in my favorites. The one in front of cape lookout. It has plumbing in there but I dont have any idea where it picks up water from. I can't find any thru hull fittings for water intake. My guess is that it to drains into the bilge. Doesn't seem like it should though.

Thanks Adam.  Is there a pie plate in front of your console?  If so, stick the camera down there and snap a picture under the live well.  Maybe that will show some sort of hose coming in.  If there is nothing coming to it maybe the previous owner disconnected it?

There are hoses I side the live well, and coming out of the live well also. Just don't know where they go . There is also a switch for it and the fishbox pump on the rt side door of my console. Both pumps run but no idea where they get water from. Never had the boat in the water when I turned them on. But there is no visible thru hull fitting to get water from.

My factory pickup is located on the starboard side aft near the transom.  Look in that location and see if you see a pickup of any kind.

Ok update. I found the water intake. It is in the port side rear of the boat. However there is no hose connected to it. Also there is no hose anywhere under the floor or near it.?? I have to take the large deckate off it to replace the fuel tank anyway, so I will investigate while I am in there. Stay tuned!!

Where your pickup is you should have a sea cock that opens and closes that intake.  Especially is there is no hose attached or even if there is one, for safety reasons you need to make sure that sea cock will open and close.

It has a ball valve shut off on it. It does work or at least I should say it doesn't leak. I only know this because I have had the boat out a couple of times and it wasn't taking on any water. lol

It looks like I must have said a bad word   Anyway, glad you found the "ball valve" shut off.  Going forward, just make sure it works for your safety.

I guess I need to make the censored word list more seaworthy  :lolG:  If you would have wrote seacock, it would have been ok.

Have you figured this out? I have a 1989 with the same setup and its confusing the heck out of me. One pickup and no thru hole drains whatsoever. Only thing i can think is the 90 degree elbow from the bottom of the livewell is used as a fill and drain through the bottom pickup and washdown/livewell pump.  The pump at my livewell is just a re-circulation to aerator bar. I still can't figure out the fishbox drain and what the switch would power.
