Repowering weight distribution question

Hello All,
Going to be repowering my 225 Explorer from a (96)225hp Ocean Pro to a (05)250hp ETEC here in the next week or so. The ETEC is about 70lbs heavier than the Ocean Pro. I have read where a few people compensated for the weight by adding more weight on the front end of the boat. Not much of a question but is it just a matter of adding 70lbs in the cabin. Is there anything else maybe to take into consideration? Thanks again.

launch your boat as it is and while it's floating put 70lbs worth of sand bags on top of the cowling and see how it sits in the water. Walk to the aft and see if it starts letting water in through the scuppers.

Thanks Rick . Water getting in through the scuppers is what I was worried about with the additional weight.

Your hull is bow heavy. You should have no trouble with a big block Etec on your 225. I repowered my 245 Explorer with a 250 Etec last year. Love it. I know another member who repowered a 225 Explorer with a 225 Etec and has no problems.
I'm not sure what year went to the MWS Wire harness(96 maybe?). If yours is MWS with the system check gauge, the Etec will be plug and play with your existing rigging.
If you have any questions on the Etec just let me know.

Thanks Bruce. The rigging was plug and play like you mentioned and was pretty easy to get hooked up. It was a good part of the decision with sticking with an E-rude. I remembered your post and ended up mounting on the third hole of the motor as well. Night and day compared to how loud my Ocean Pro was. Nice that is doesn't smoke either. Looking forward to getting her on the water.

If she sits a little stern-heavy, you can always move the batteries up front.
