Center Console attach to Deck
« on: August 14, 2017, 04:11:03 PM »
I'm getting ready to Re-attach my center console back on to the deck. 1988 striper 200. Screws, Grommets, 3m4000 to do the job.
But - has anybody ever used anything in between the console itself and the deck? Sorta of a gasket or pad? I did see a video where they used a layer of starboard in between on a mako. i was looking at the below trim. any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

That Taco product is edge trim - it's not made to be a gasket or seal.  The CCPs have teak trim between the console and the deck:

That is a nice look for sure. The console on the 88 does form an edge. it bends down 90 degrees toward the deck. The screws go thru the horizontal part of it obviously though. So even though it's not in yet I think once it is in I will be able to look under the center console from the access door and see about 1/2 inch of screw thread going down into the deck. I think the stuff would work, but also agree it's not really designed to so. May try it - if i do i'll let you know. The starboard i mentioned may work, but i'm on a deadline so may not have time.
thanks let me know if anyone else has thoughts/comments/ideas.

Hey there,

I ended up using pvc trim to fabricate risers for the cooler seat and console. Relatively simple and will last forever. Here's some pics:

Any concern about the corners around the cooler seat?

I absolutely did at first. That's why I sanded them very well to burnish the sharp edges .  Been on the water since late April without any instances as of yet. Knock on wood lol.

Nice Work! when you say "PVC Trim" do mean similar to the plastic wood they use on house trim (AZEK)? I decided to forgo using anything under my center console mostly because of time. i've been working on it all summer and hope to get in the water at least for Sept and part of Oct. Next spring i will probaly pull it up and put something in between the console and the deck. Right now it is screwed down and there is nice tight seal. I still need to lay caulk bead with 4000.
For my Cooler seat though - i have the Stainless Steel frame and i definitely did not want to attach that directly to the deck so i ordered Starboard 2" wide x 1" thick to put underneath. I will set it up so it drains. I will post pics once complete.
to all - thanks for your input and ideas.
