Marine Aluminum Fabrication
« on: November 22, 2016, 06:42:44 PM »
Anyone have an idea of how marine aluminum fabricators charge?  I'm looking to mount a tower console helm as my steering station.  Think of 4 upside down "L" shaped aluminum pipe, 4 legs secured to deck, the other 4 ends secured to helm box.  Obviously this would be a custom job, though a simple fabrication of one bend in each of the 4 pipes, flanges welded to each end.

I have NO idea of how much raw AL marine pipe costs, let alone the labor charges associated with the above.  I've scanned the net to get an idea, however, most of what I find is the cost associated with a full/half/mini tower station.  Which is way more than what I'm trying to compare to.  Any input is greatly appreciated.

Bright anodized aluminum stock is not cheap. Fabricators have to buy it in full lengths aka sticks that are usually 12-24 feet in length plus they have a minimum order. They typically will take the raw materials costs and quadruple that or more to come up with a estimate for a custom build.... but more intricate work will cost more.
