Trailer to small?
« on: December 08, 2016, 06:56:17 PM »
So i am thinking after looking at this boat more. That this trailer is to small! i just emailed the manufacturer EZ Loader and told them i just purchased this trailer and that the VIN tag was not legible and if they could send me info based off my VIN. Well there response was it is a 1500# capacity trailer and 1890 lbs GVWR. With the trailer weighing in at 390. So i am definitely thinking it is too small. For one the weight of the boat and motor are already pushing 1500 lbs. That doesn't include gas, ice chest with beer, fishing gear and misc. items. Did i mention Beer??  :singing: It doesn't look long enough and the weight capacity is to small. I am thinking about an 1800-2000 lb capacity trailer. Any thoughts??

Yeah.  A lot of dealers package boats with trailers that are too small trying to squealed every dollar out of the deal.  It's far better to have a comfortable cushion in capacity.  It's better for the boat and safer on the road.

Yeah way to light. I have my 170 on a single axle 3500 lbs trailer. You dont want to be riding around at the max capacity of the trailer components. Keep if you load the boat full of fuel, coolers, ice, gear etc that stuff adds up real quick.

Get rid of the roller trailer while you are at it. Measure from the bow eye to transom. You need at least a couple of inches of bunks sticking out

You read my mind Lewis (great to see you still checking in here) - but since he's way up north he may need the rollers to retrieve the boat due to the tides.

Thanks for the responses guys. I have started looking for another trailer already. I measure from bow eye to transom and got a little over 15' and the chine is about 65". And as for rollers or bunks I like bunk style trailers better. I personally don't like rollers, to much weight from the boat on a single spot. So I am going for a bunk trailer. I have looked at some new aluminum trailers and some used trailers. Found a few on Craigslist with some used boat with a 90hp engine that they claim works for very good prices. So those would be a win win for me. A trailer that fits and a bigger engine Han the 70hp I have now. Called the local landfill and they take old boats for about $40.

I did that once with a old Renken cuddy.  pushed it off the trailer and then watched the guy driving the big front loader with spiked steel wheels run it over!  That was cool to watch...  just pulverized the thing into dust!  I have a video of it somewhere.

Oh and I agree bunks are the way to go!

Ok so i think i have come across a trailer that i think will work. It is bigger than what i have now. My chine is 64", this trailer is 76" from inside fender to fender. The end of the bunk stop to winch is 16' and my boat is 15'6" from stern to bow eye. So that will fit on there perfect. Take a look at this trailer and see if you think my 1988 AS 170 will work on this. Guy is asking $200 OBO. Opinions?
