240 SeaHunter power/speed & fuel tank
« on: May 18, 2016, 12:13:18 PM »
searched the threads, looks like the general consensus for an outboard on this model is a 250-275 horse 2 stroke. can't find the spec's on it, the 246 Family Fisherman is rated for a 285, but this is a different hull.  I read plenty that it'll run "fine" with a 150, but I'd prefer to having a cruising speed slightly faster than 20mph with a 2' wake. currently running a 200 Ocean Pro, @ WOT it touches 32 mph. and it has a hole shot like molasses. not trying to be a speed demon here, and I know they're not designed for that, but my family's '73 19-6 with a 130 etec will crack 44mph. has a ttop, 40 gal wash down tank, men/gear/drink = 500lbs average. need to figure out size of fuel tank? anybody? it's a 1974. I'm guessing 70-80? also planning a 100 mile trip up the Intracoastal, it'd be good to know fuel capacity.

Looks like twin 125s (250hp) hits 40+.

Same size for an outboard.

Cap Bob strikes again with a wealth of info. Makes it look I didn't do any homework. where are all those files & brochures Bob? those I/O's look to be quite a bit more "squatty".

I have the 300 e-tec bolted up. I think my fuel efficiency has doubled. My old WFO speed was 32 @ 5600, now my cruising speed is 32 @ 3700. hopefully everything keeps going well.

Brochures are found in the Gallery forum. Some pics there also. Some come from my stock on my computer.
