1981 222 4g looking for advice

Can anybody tell me if this is a good deal? He said the boat is solid except for a tiny spot in the deck. Im worried it may be a huge project. Transom was just redone and is set for a yamaha.

That is a 222 CCP (Center Console Professional) and they were made in the 80s ( around '80-late 80s).
The Aquasport line of boats had wood in the transoms and the coring of deck and under the cap. Everything else is glass to include the stringers.
I think you can find a better CCP for that money.  My :2Cents:

Agree with RickK. Seems a bit expensive., particularly with no engine. I would have thought around the $2-
3k mark depending on how it inspects.

As a guide...I picked mine up 2 years ago for $4.5k including engine and it was in great condition on a good dual axle trailer. Always garaged out of season. The deck had one or two soft spots but they were easily fixed. I hope that gives you a reference point. BTW they are great boats.

While it's known here that I have a certain soft spot for CCPs, that is not what I would define as an enclosed transom.

As to the price.... a 35 year old hull is only worth what someone will pay.
Steering is mechanical.Condition?
Condition of fuel tank (is it original?).
Battery(s) location.

Just a few questions I'd ask.

Good luck. The most fun is in the hunt. :thumright:

I echo Capt. Bob's thoughts. Go and have a look at it and if you think it will detail up ok then make a cheeky offer. Nothing to lose. I wouldn't worry about a soft deck in places (not the whole deck!). There is a ton of info on this site on how to sort that and its not that hard. Just a little fiddly but very doable for someone with half a idea of how to hold a cordless drill. What do you have to lose? Like I say...they are truly great boats...a little wet sometimes when out front but very nice riding. :2Cents:

It does appear that the transom has had work.  Like mine, the splashwell has been removed and a wave board has been molded in.  That is a big plus on the CCP because that gives you almost 2' of additional cockpit space aft.  If the entire transom has been replaced that is also a big plus.  I think his figure is very accurate as to what it costs to have the transom done as well as the removal of the splashwell.  Additional deck had to be added once the spashwell was removed.

The price might be a little high, but the modifications would make me more interested than just the stock 222 CCP with the worthless spashwell.  If the rest of the boat is solid, it might be worth trying to negotiate on the price.

Here is what mine looks like now minus the spashwell.  I am thinking his will be similar.

definitely not an enclosed transom, looks like some one found a good deal on cl on bracket and did a small amount of spit shine and polish and to make a quick flip buck, but thats just my opinion, i would very seriously investigate every inch of that boat, max value is 2k, with no motor.
