Yard storage ideas
« on: June 30, 2016, 03:25:40 PM »
Wasn't sure which section to put this in so I guess this best.

My HOA requires my boat fit entirely under the 6' fence line.  Non visible from the street or other lots.  My first question would be to anyone with a 17' or 19'6, how tall is your boat on the trailer?

I was thinking about digging out about a 3' deep ramp to park the trailer tires in to drop the boat down.  Has anyone done something like this? What concerns am I missing? My only concern is I'm in Florida and during rainy season I hit water at about 3'. Thoughts on dealing with that as well?

I'm also interested in any ideas to reinforce the front portion of the yard where I will be backing up the boat and truck.  Again HOA doesn't allow me to rock in or pour a second driveway.  I was thinking of digging out two ruts and filling them with sand and those diamond shaped pavers that allow grass to grow between them. Then laying new sod on top of the pavers.  Giving it some support right below the grass.

Any ideas(or pictures if you've done it) on either of these would be very helpful.

Thanks.

I know I can see my 170 sticking a tad above my 6' fence. I think the key here is how tall is your trailer and how high does your boat sit on the trailer. A lower profile trailer along with setting the bunks very wide to allow the boat to sit lower on it. Also lower profile tires and wheels would help. The 170 and 19'6 have a shallow vee so you should be able to get them pretty low.

I hate HOAs. I get why they have them but you get these condo commandos that have nothing better to do than give you grief. Been there done that never again. I live in unincorporated county where I can pretty much do what I want.

Only one solution.  Move.

If you make a recessed area to park your boat, it will fill with water every time it rains or you water the lawn and it will become a muddy mess.  I think your best bet is to do what Bruce said and lower the profile as much as possible via the trailer.  Or move.

I would be a classic "this is not allowed" video of a HOA   :hee20hee20hee:
I live on a corner so I really don't have a "side yard" and my house sits on all the max setback lines, so I can't tuck them in behind the house due to fences.  I just pretty'd them up with custom covers (I have a pic of the 230 with it's cover somewhere).

I agree with the "move" advice/vote.
