Abomination repair
« on: February 28, 2016, 08:34:10 PM »
What was somebody thinking...or not.  These keyhole saw holes are in the main deck and I can't get under them for any backing.  Deck is .75 inchs.  Does anyone have an idea how to repair this?  The hose is the overflow drain from the baitwell and there are two more like this in the coffin lid which I can back.

Well, looks like someone had a drain problem or is this an aftermarket live well?

You could cut in a hatch. This would give you access to the below deck hose and maybe reconnect to the live well. :ScrChin:

Could use a few more pics of what's going on/where it's located.

Good luck. :thumright:

you gotta love some of the crap previous owners do to boats.  Sealing the core from water intrusion would be my biggest concern with that damage.  As already said a pie plate inspection hole would be one solution.  More pics of the area the holes are located would help.

OK, more pix.  The baitwell is standard AS Striper under seat in front of console.  The holes are port side deck under console just outboard of fuel coffin.  The PO cut the drain hose but I could fish it out of the 3 hole mess and reconnect it to the baitwell.  The under deck hose is smooth sided and I can pull it above the deck line and caulk around it. Now what? :a0002:

just like a drywall patch. you could make a "repairable" hole- like a square shape instead, that would allow you to seal fresh cut fiberglass, then places a sealed backer piece along the underside of the new hole. and fill in with glass to a smooth level. then cut the hole you need for that drain hose in the correct location and in a proper manner.

I would cut a hole in the side wall of the coffin so to you can get at the under side of that fitting. Be careful that you don't cut into anything behind the coffin like the stringer.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I ain't tellin' how I patched the holes, I would be drummed out of the corps, but it entailed PVC, Marinetex, 4200 and she is water tight now.

Your suggestions are professional grade, unfortunatly my thinking doesn't quite rise to that level.
