Transom question - 170

Since I'll be rewiring etc. I decided to just remove the console and give it a fresh paint job. Also gives me a nice clean space to do the deck injection. I did a little investing through the stern deck plate and found a little delamination at the very bottom of the transom. This is obviously caused my standing bilge water. Is this something I should be concerned about? The rest of the transom all appears very solid. I cranked on the motor and there is no flex at all and it sounds solid when I rap on it with the rubber mallet. Someone definitely recapped it at some point as u can see.

I am confused I think, what is the thin vertical piece glassed to what I think is the transom? It's not a stringer is it? If you're looking thru the access pie in the aft (center?) it should be an open space back there. :?:

I am a little confused about that as well Rickk lol. That piece is glassed in the direct center of the boat and runs from bow to stern I believe. Attached is a another picture looking towards the bow. I thought the 170 only had the 2 foam filled stringers so I have no idea y it is there..??

My 170 has a little... ummm keel board or stringer board.  Here is a view near the bow looking thru the pie plate in the starboard side bow locker.

Ya I think thats the case. Wingtimes pic helped clarify its purpose. Thank you both for the help. Sorry I am a very needy member hahaha. Just trying to make sure I move forward with all of these projects in the correct manner.  You all rule!!

My 170 didn't have that in it so it caught me off guard.  Seems that is installed during the initial hull lam and is usually ground out during rebuilds and filled with composite

No problem guys!

BTW that hoes with the green stripe is NOT supposed to be laying there like that.  That is the drain hose for my center bow locker.  The PO had placed a plug in the the thru hull on the starboard side.  If it had come out my boat would have sunk!  :a102:
