1971 Flatback
« on: March 20, 2015, 03:15:22 PM »
Hello, I looked at a 1971 Flatback today that I think im going to pull the trigger on in the am. Condition of it is a little rough but hull is strait, notched transom seems to be solid and floors are ok. Probably needs a total redo which ill plan on doing over the winter. The guy is asking 3,600 for her. What is this boat worth without power. Has trailer but probably worth a few hundred bucks. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you!!!

There is a member here who is asking $3900 for a FB with both motor and trailer.
He is in the Fla. Keys.

Of course, some guy on the Forum may have driven the price up. :oops2:

Good luck.

I bought a 1971 22-2 flatback last summer for $4000.  It had a nicely maintained 150 hp Evinrude Ocean Pro, a nice tandem axle aluminum trailer with new hubs and tires, and was solid and ready to fish.  The boat was from the Tampa area and had been on craigslist for months.  I'd guess that a reasonable price for a similar hull without motor and on a poor trailer would be more like $2500.

OTOH, if you buy a vintage Aquasport with the thought of restoration, you're probably going to be spending $10 K or more on the job, so a few hundred here or there on the original purchase is easily lost in the noise.
