Thanks for all the help. I will definetly put up some pics. At this point the push isnt there though. I leave friday with the boat for a week at my island house in Rhode Island. I was trying to get something to happen before then but oh well. I may tackle it when I get back or perhaps leave it for a winter thing. I'm trying to get the deck laid in my SeaCraft before it gets too cold to fiberglass so this may have to wait a bit. I had some time this week so I ordered the parts I thought I needed for a quick install. Since I have to re-engineer, itll have to wait. I will in deed post pics of after I get it done. Thanks again!!

Ok so the plates are made. 3/4" 6061 aluminum with 1/2 20 studs. The install was a breeze and now the motor can be adjusted!!!! To start I moved the motor up 2 holes. Test run is tomorrow and I'll post results. I did have to use the bracket to mount the steering to the front of the motor due to clearance issues but it is a well engineered piece sourced directly from BRP. Even came with new angled grease fittings for the tilt tube. The only snag I ran into is that the nut for the steering cable was originally installed cross threaded and no matter how I tried I could not get it to thread normally. It is tight (cross threads a tight thread after all) but it is cross threaded. Im contemplating replacing the steering cable now but not sure if I really need to. Like I said, it's tight, but not right. Cant wait to see how the boat performs!!

Pics of the plates and steering bracket.

Good solution,

I'm sure you're not the only one to have that problem on this model hull. Too bad about the steering cable nut. That should be 7/8-14 thread. I have the thread die for the tilt tube end. I've always thought about creating a hollow two piece tap that you could use to chase the nut threads. I have the EDM equipment to do it but the tap would cost more than a replacement cable!

I removed the nut after tightening it and the tube looked just fine. It just seems that the nut took the hit on the inside. Its been like this for years I can only assume but now that I know about it, I dont like it.

So 2 holes did not get me where I need to be. I'm going to go to the last hole. Its pretty close though and I gained some RPMs. I can almost touch 5k now. The splash is still  going on top of the plate but it rides pretty close to the surface. My goal is to see the plate.

Does anyone know the length cable to get for this hull? Its hard to see in the console and I'd like to order one today and the boat is at home. Its a morse cable thats on there. I figure it must be somewhat standard on these boats. I noticed that the cable has play between the nut and the tube. (moves about 3/16 of an inch) I think I just need to replace it and be done. I'd just rather have the new one before I take out the old one. Thanks!

Though I feel the first will work just fine, an extra foot never hurts.
They make pretty loops.

Good luck. :thumright:

PS.... Since you're messin' with the steering, a little light reading.

Wow! Thanks. I just said screw it and went hydraulic. The helm looks old and the lady says it's too hard to steer so this seems like a good move. Should be in in a few days!

I think you will be very satisfied with your decision.

Post up a few pics of the install in your thread.

Good luck. :thumright:
