Questions about a '98 175
« on: June 16, 2015, 12:29:56 PM »
I just sold the Mako 17 project I had been working on in order to pick up something that is water ready.  I am currently looking at a '98 175s and was hoping you guys could answer a few questions for me.  If so, here goes...

This is the boat:  http://annapolis.craigslist.org/boa/5044614148.html

1.  Are the transoms in these boats wood or composite cored?
2.  Is the fuel tank poly or aluminum?
3.  What might be a fair price for a '98 model w/ original 90 hp Johnson and no trailer if everything is in good/serviceable condition?
4.  Are there any well know problems that I need to keep an eye out for when I go to take a look?

Thanks.

1. I can't say for sure.

2. I'm betting aluminum. A member with a year 2000 model has an aluminum tank hence my rational.

3. Had a 96 advertised on this site with trailer for $7500 in March. Several on Boat Trader around your year 96-97 running from $4500-$7000.

4. No more than any other of a hull and motor that old. Model is very popular with the Forum (you've been around since the beginning so you know) and often rebuilt from the 70s and 80s. 90s seem to be holding up well.

Here's a little light reading if you haven't already.

Good luck.

As for pricing, I just picked up a 2000 17.5 with a 2000 90 HP Johnson and a trailer and I paid $5500 for it in NH. The motor needed a new Tilt Motor and I put new throttle cables in it.
