Toad in the bilge
« on: July 03, 2015, 01:45:42 PM »
I just changed my fuel filter in the bilge of my 175 Osprey and something brushed against my hand. It was a big old toad and looked well fed so may be catching palmetto bugs and other insects.

Has anyone  ever have a critter take up residence inside their boat?

I don't want to harm it and figure if I do remove it, it will just find its way back.

Any suggestions?

I've found bird's nests in life jacket storage area of my t-top, as well as squirrels inside the life jackets themselves  :38:.  Also found green tree frogs as well as your typical bugs.  The "good" critters were relocated on land.  The not-so-good critters were disposed of in a less friendly fashion :97:

I found a birds nest on top of my anchor under the pulpit on my 230, up under the cover. That should be a hint that I need to take it out more often.  :73:

I found huge wasp nest under the console of my 170 - scary big.  Then I had a maroon boat cover made and nothing but mold can live inside it.

I have the 170 upside down right now and I taped cardboard over an open hatch and it fell off already and I see wasps going up inside the hatch, so when I flip it back over in a few weeks I know there will be a pissed off nest waking up to a bug bomb.  :shhh:

I've had more bird's nest in my boat than I can count. I check often during spring and remove the start ups before mom settles in. The bow pulpit and the trim/tilt section of the motor are prime real estate.

Location, location location. :103:

I think I'll just leave it in the bilge. My former wasp problem seems to have gone away, maybe with the toad's help:-)
