Lowrance HDS Backlight Issue
« on: May 14, 2015, 10:39:12 AM »
I have an HDS 5 fishfinder chart plotter and it seems the backlight has gone bad. I can power it up and with a flashlight can read the screens and everything else seems to be working fine. Before I go breaking into this thing I was wondering if anyone else has came across this issue and has successfully fixed it. I have read a few things online but nothing giving a clear solution.

I wish I could help but mine is still functioning.

Good luck.

Before you tear into it, remember that a lot of units are nitrogen filled to keep them dry and from fogging up. I would go on Lowrance's website and find out what a factory repair cost is. I know Humminbird has the service which I've used and one time I ruined a screen cleaning it incorrectly that they replaced free of charge! Worth a look anyway.
