1973 22'2 questions.

Hey all, I'm new to the site. I have a '73 22'2 and didn't know to much about it. I was doing research to sell it and I ran across this site. I've owned it for 3 years and it has done everything my family has asked it to do. It's not a beauty queen by any means, but it is a turn key boat. It's a " keys cruiser" living here in Key Largo.  It has a 1986 Johnson 120 looper on it. It has a soft spot on the floor right in front of the console, but hasn't spread (yet)in the 3 years I've owned it. The gas tank is also out of it, so I've been working off a 13 gallon plastic tank, with two 5 gallon pales on the side for long trips. I'm trying to find out what I should expect to sell it for. Any input would help.

If you're wondering if the brand has some rare market value, the answer is...... no

Yes, some like the hull for it's performance and design relative to their plan of use (commercial) like the "flatback" model.

Others like the lines and style but at the end of the day, it's only worth what someone will pay.

Thanks capt. Bob, that gave me an idea of what I should do. I was planning on putting it up for 3,900 obo and think I'm still going to do that. I'll expect to come down from there. A turn key boat should have value in its own,  especially here in the FL keys. Like you mentioned, I was curious if it did hold a extra value I wasn't aware of. It has been a great boat for my family. I really hate having to part with it.

I do agree. 

A fully functioning craft in a boating rich environment does create its own worth as you state and hopefully the Aquasport marque will add a little extra oomph to its value.

What you described earlier ('73) was a 12 degree model Osprey, what you show us now is actually a Flatback model that is earlier than '72.  The last year that the FBs were made was '71 (some members have a '72 which was probably a '71 sold in '72, so the title says '72).

This changes everything.
Is it worth more now?  Maybe, maybe not but I think you'll find more people are searching for FBs than the newer 12 degree models.

Compare the top left pic of the bottom of the boat in this '73 era catalog sheet to the back of your boat.

Like stated above, only what one will pay but....... now your market area has moved outside of the Keys.

As a point of reference, I recently assisted in the sale of a boat like yours here in NC. It was in good to very good original condition. Original above-deck fiberglass gas tank inside console. 115 Yamaha that ran like a champ, decent single axle trailer. The rig went for $3200.00.

However, as Bob states there is a big demand for your flatback in Florida, especially the Tampa Bay area. They are rebuilt with closed transoms and used as skinny water fish hunters.

Thanks all. The last couple post were the reason I posted this. Like I said, I don't know much about it, but it did seem like it was a desired hull. At least in the little I have read. I assumed that the 22'2 was only available with the flat back.

I guess with that being said, the classified ad will be up in the next week or so. I was planning on putting on more of a motor to push it passed 35mph. I bought a 2000 johnson 200, 2 stroke, 20" shaft.  Should I attempt to sell as a package?  Or will it bring in more separately?

Well for the hard core HP cult, you can never have too much, still......

This style hull isn't designed for high HP so I'd try and sell the motor by itself.

im all for speed but the flatbacks are not made to go much over 40 mph, over 40 even with a extended keel can get scary quick...

list it in the tampa bay area and boca grand and she'll sell quick, down in the keys these hulls surprisingly aren't as popular. i picked my stripped hull up in the keys for a $200 bill
