2001 Osprey 250
« on: February 22, 2015, 11:08:03 AM »
I am in the process of purchasing the boat mentioned in the title. I hope the survey is completed this week, but the weather has been crazy. Anyway, the boat is powered by twin Evinrudes150s, I know all of the challenges there, but I'm not all that familiar with the boat.  I love the layout, always liked Aquasports, but could use some more info about the boat. I noticed it had an extension cord plugged in toward the stern and assume that is shore power, but what exactly is it powering? How are the front insulated boxes drained?  Manually I assume?  How about the live well, how is it filled and is there a circulator?  I'm really hoping the survey goes well, it looks like the guy took great care of the boat and only has 380 hours on it.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

OK,
Let's see what we have.

First a 2004 catalog cut.

Here's a 98 catalog cut.

While I realize it's hard to read even on a large screen, the specs are pretty close so I'd say this is your hull. We know from these catalogs that the hull "grew" from the 245 to the 250 but this is not uncommon within the industry. Builders often changed decals for marketing purposes rather than create a new hull.

I don't notice shore power as an option but it could have been special order for that particular boat. I'd guess it's powering an on-board battery charging system.

If I recall, the front boxes are gravity drained via thru hulls. You can see one on the starboard side forward in the 98 catalog pic.

Here is some info on the live well drain. Note that the 225 and 245 (250) are set up the same way.
