Exact fuel sender location
« on: February 10, 2015, 05:54:58 PM »
Picked up this 1978 cc 20 footer. Got some issues . Biggest 1 on the list is locating the fuel sender location without pulling up the floor to find it. Anyone got some accurate measurements.  And a good source for a replacement. ?

Thanks Mike

Unless the deck has been replaced, there is usually a removable "pie plate" over the sending unit and also one over the fuel pickup.  If there is not one there, then I would remove the deck hatch cover over the fuel tank, locate the sending unit, mark it, drill a hole, and install an access plate. I don't remember where it was on a 20' but on some larger models it was up under the console. On the 281 Osprey there was not one for the forward tank.

Is this a CCP or Osprey?

Any pics?

This is the sender you want.

Also, you may want to pull the tank hatch for two good reasons.

First is to get a real solid feel for the tank condition whether it has been "replaced" or not.

Second is to clean and reseal the hatch itself. Water is your worst enemy.
It's not that big of a deal to remove the hatch on either model made that year.

Good luck.

Yup, ended up pulling the cover, looks old enough to be original, lots of foam and 1 strap.

Appears to be on its last leg in condition. I cut in a deck hatch and replaced with a West Marine sender

Not sure what model it is and would like to know. HIN is  aspp0134m782

Boat measures exactly 20'

Look at figure #2 on how to decipher a HIN:
http://boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm

As for the model, is it a Center Console?  A Cuddy?

It's a center console. Has a recessed bow rail like the pic of a 200ccp

Got a title that says 78. Does not surprise me that is incorrect.

Don't know how to post pics and am too old to learn new tricks. Thanks for the info

Well the CCP has the recessed rail.

Do you have pics of the boat you can email me?

Don't sweat the HIN right now. Sounds like a CCP. Tank has probably seen its day. Smell any fumes when you had the hatch off?

Do you have a water separator type fuel filter mounted between the tank and motor?

Is there a coffin in front of the center console?

Maybe some teak trim in several areas ?

Gas tank had 1 small pinhole that I patched, no gas smell. That's the reason I pulled the cover, had a gas leak when I filled it to the top

Someone did a poor job of glassing over the deck and not sure about the coffin in front, I do know the floor is soft there and has a water drain hole there as well

Sucked out the water and crap when I had the sender out, which wasn't much. I do have a separator on it. The engine runs perfect at all RPM's

I will address the soft floors and old tank sometime, problem is the boat lives on a lift at my vacation house in Fla. Don't have a building to do the work in and am missing a lot of my tools.

Here is my email, I could send pics easy enough that way.  Thanks for taking an interest. I live in the Fort Meyers area
