Osprey 200 advice wanted
« on: February 10, 2015, 03:28:40 PM »
Hi everyone-

I have been thinking about purchasing a 1997 Osprey 200, with a Johnson Ocean Pro 150.  The boat is in pretty good shape the best that I can tell.  I was told the motor was fine as well, just having been worked on last season.  Obviously, I will ask to see the receipt for the engine work, and have it started/test ride.

My plan is to have the boat professionally surveyed, but I am looking for advice on what I should check on before taking that next step.  Any particular issues with these boats & motors?  It seems ideal for what I want-I am a first time buyer and would expect to use the boat mainly in the bays (Barnegat & Sandy Hook, NJ).

The boat needs a cleanup, but I see this as an inexpensive entry boat which I could eventually customize as I like- bimini or T-top, additional seating/leaning post  and a live well.   I have looked at other center consoles, but something about the looks of this model just calls to me.

Any advice and surveyor recommendations would be appreciated.
