There are too many better tasting fish around than to bother with cravelle.  I used to wade fish every Sunday and there was a guy (an uncle to one of the guys I waded with) who would fish with us and keep every fish he caught, trash fish or not and his wife would make spaghetti sauce out of them.  He'd beg us to not release the trash fish we'd catch - even wanted us to give him undersized snook and flounder (which I wouldn't, which pissed him off).  He'd eat anything in a sauce. Regardless of the fish and its prep...usually makes a good fish salad

Or fish stew.  Sheepies are excellent for fish stew...

Never saw him catch ink blots but any other kind of fish from pin to snake he'd take home.

Maybe those big honkers would be ok if you bleed them out and like he said, ice them down immediately.  I'll try some at the next gathering if you follow the guidelines posted in that link.

Snook used to be called "Soap fish" and considered trash until they discovered if you took the skin off, it was a tasty fish (actually almost tasteless).

Jacks are ok smoked and made into a fish dip...like mullet . They are a bloody dark meat fish and should be bled out . They are a bit stronger than Macs, bit not a deal breaker. Use em' in a recipe for fish patties, might turn out just fine.

catch'em, bleed'em, fillet'em, cut old the bloodline, brine them in your favorite brine.
I brine them for 24 hours and smoke the crap out of them. than make some fish dip or
just eat them smoked. I like'em . but then again, I've been told I have screw or two loose.

my wife freaked out when she saw me pulling worms out of amber jack
meat, getting it ready to smoke. She said what the heck is that? I said
their worms,...Why do you think I call it parasite dip?
She won't eat anymore to this day. I still eat it!! :danceSm:
