May the Rebuild Begin - 1970 22-2 Flatback

I dug into my 1970 flatback.  Ripped apart the transom which lead to removing floor which lead to the cap which lead to removing the entire liner and casting deck.  I got to get a real good look at the stringers.  The foam is wet and there are several cracks in the stringers. 

Here's the plan.

Replace transom
Repair stringers with 1708
Refoam stringers
Install new gas tank (below floor)
Install new floor
Construct new rear casting deck (big challenge)
reinstall liner & casting deck
Paint
re-rig
GO FISHING

Are you going with a full transom?  Will you be raising the deck?  I assume you have spent some time looking at some of the rebuild threads on here.  Lots of good info and ideas to be had.  And we'll certainly be here to help you spend your money

I am going to raise the transom to 25" not totally enclose it.  What is the advantage to raising the floor?  Wont I achieve the same thing by simply eliminating the small deck bilge basin in the back and just put some deck level drains out the back?

Hard part's done.
Once in your Gallery, choose the photo you want and click on it to bring it up on your screen.

Left click on "Linked Image" (below Linked Thumb). Notice background changes from blue to white while link lettering does just the opposite.

Now press Ctrl+C.

Return to your post and choose where you want to place your image and click Ctrl+V.

Link is now embedded into your post and will show as an image when you submit.

Most of these boats will get water backing up through the scuppers and wetting your feet with one or two larger folks or a lot of gear in the back.  It would be worse if you add a heavy 4 stroke engine, especially if you were to cantilever it out on a bracket.  You mentioned adding a casting deck to the back, which will also add weight.  Many people raise the deck 2-5" to help keep it dry.
