2004 osprey sport 215 - speed question
« on: September 30, 2014, 01:52:48 AM »
Wanted to know if anyone can share any speed information for this model. She is powered by a 200 yamaha ox66. At @ 3800 rpm gps speed is showing @ 23 knots. At @ 4200 rpm gps speed is showing @ 27 knots. This is with quarter to half tank of fuel and wife and two kids on board. Just seems a little slow, any feedback would be great. BTW - love the boat.

If I'm not mistaken, that is the same hull as my 2002 205 Osprey, but in a dual console setup.  I'm also running a 200 Yami OX66.  I don't know off hand what my speed is at those RPMs, but it does seem a little slow.  What is your max speed and corresponding RPMs?  That motor should run about 5500 RPM at WOT, and you should get in the upper 40's (MPH).

definitely too slow, that rig should hit the mid 40's (MPH)  if runningright and propped correctly, stating your 4200 RPM at 27 knots is that indicating top RPM you are getting, as said you should be hitting 5500, if the engine is right, it sounds like your are swinging too much prop?

I have not run her full open very often. When i first bought her during the survey we ran her all the way @ 5200 rpm and she was hitting @ 38 knots on the gps.
