I have a 2003 17.5 aquasport with a 90 hp yamaha. I need to replace my steering cable. Any idea what cable would be best for this boat. Is this a job that I could do myself. Any idea of the ballpark price to install a new steering cable
Thanks
John

Hi J Mac,
You can certainly change out the steering cable yourself. Hardest part is getting it out of the tube at the engine.

I did a Baystar install on a 175 a couple months ago, so obviously had to remove the old cable. The good news is I could pull the cable out of the tilt tube without having to remove the engine from the transom (a common issue on smaller boats). It's tight, but definitely doable.
Replace the old with a Teleflex QCII cable, the P/N on the old cable should be stamped in the jacket of the old cable. The last 2 digits are the cable length in feet. I get all my cables from boatersland.com, have been for years...
