« on: June 26, 2014, 05:02:14 PM »
here is a description of what my boat will be come this December.  everything is done except the lencos (in the garage), 1100 pump and new fuel tank.  tank cover will also be recored then.  What will the boat be worth then?  pics below.  It is not for sale.  Im just curious what you guys might think its worth.

1987 200 Osprey – solid floors and dry stringers.  checked stringers by drilling holes at the base.  no water drainage.  used 3" holes saw in center.  dry.  glassed over hole.
T-top  - new canvas
Leaning post
Front bimini top
Full cushions – all new
Awlgrip inside and out with non skid
New raised wood transom.  solid as a rock.  guy did do a nice job in the end.
Corrosion free, perfect running 1989 Mercury 150.  All new mounts, head gaskets, etc.  gone through and is perfect and clean.
Newer wiring
New 1100 bilge pump
Brand new EZ Loader torsion axle trailer
Garmin 441s
2 speaker stereo
2 anchors
Lenco tabs

Unfortunately what we think our boats may be worth is not what they are worth to others,
1989 motor $1500-2000
1987 hull $2000
New trailer $2000
Unless you can find someone who appreciates all the work you put in to it.
Good luck with the sale

Flip-side:  Never know if the perfect buyer is out there...if you go to sell it, advertise it where you think its worth.  Like in real estate appraisal, its worth exactly as much as someone will pay for it.  Not a penny more, not a penny less.  Any guess at value ahead of a sale is just a guess  :thumright:

I've been surprised in the past when I advertise boats at a price that I think will never have a chance and they sell to the first person to come.  On the other hand, I've bought things (a particular truck stands out in my mind) at a price that I thought was a steal, and when it came time to sell, been stuck not even being able to get my money back out, much less clear that profit I was sure I'd have coming.

That said, I'd guess $7k, which I reckon is a little higher than Pete, but in the ballpark.

Given the dry stringers and new transom...clean hull and new trailer.....a broker would prob price it at around 8K.

So....list it at 7500, take the first 6500 green money

Jason, it's like my '87 Maxima.  Love my car, as I bought a new one back then, paid a pretty good chunk of change for her ($22.5K back in '87).  The one I have now I bought 8 years ago for $1100.  Mechanic owned it, super maintained and I've kept up on her maintenance.  Runs like a top, 5-speed (VERY desirable), I wouldn't ever sell her.  If the motor ever goes (Nissan VG30 V-6s are EXTREMELY durable), I'll just find another motor to swap in her.  The car is worth a TON...to me.

I'd probably be lucky to get $800 for her on CL...

ya.  i can say i have about $10-11k into this boat now.  but its come a LONG way since i bought it.  since this is the first boat of my own, i learned a few things of what to do and what not to do.  i pretty much rigged it twice plus the transom and paint, trailer, going through the motor etc.  if i use it for 4-5 years and get $7k for it i guess i got my moneys worth.  i know ill have 3-footitus once i have a couple kids on the boat.  or i may just decide to keep it longer.  we'll see.  i do love the boat.  does everything i need.  sometimes i do wish it were a few feet bigger.

bob, how would compare a 23 tournament cat with a seacat sl1 and sl5?  i really like the sl1.  tons of room for a 21 and great reviews from people.  it would help my wife get out on the ocean and not get sick drifting.  i finally got her out this past saturday for her first time.  got her to 250' with her driving (trolling).  she cant drift fish though which sucks.

Jason, this Sea Cat here...http://www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=157250  is my good friend Brian Wilson's old boat.  I rewired her helm, re-rigged the motors and raised them, added some electronics...so I know the boat pretty well.  He loved it (he sold it and bought a 26 Glacier Bay CC, 150 HPDIs), but the fit and finish on a 23 Tournament Cat is far and above the Sea Cat.  I know his boat inside and out, I'd take a 23 Tournament Cat any day over the Sea Cat...
