19-6: Which year to Buy or Avoid?
« on: July 16, 2014, 12:45:16 PM »
Done my research looking at Mako, SeaCraft, and Aquasport and have settled on the AS 19-6 Open Fisherman or Osprey.  Do not want the CCP deadrise.

Were there any quality issues for certain years or time periods that I should avoid?

Funny thing, I asked SeaCraft forum about Mako and got piss and vinegar.  Asked Mako forum about AS, and got decent to good comments.

They all run the same. In the scheme of things, and in general, newer should be better in terms of water intrusion.

Get on Craig's and start looking, we'll do the same. Where do you call home?

Not quite ready to buy yet as I do not have a place to store it.  I'm Dunedin, FL and I'm going to keep it in my back yard, which has access to a street.  I need to build a boat shed, add a larger gate, and place a limerock driveway/parking pad.

The SC guys, well, if it's not an SC, it ain't chit.  The Mako guys are pretty cool, though...

You'll love the 19-6/200.  Great boats.  As for year they all are constructed about the same.  The genmar era boats are a but newer and have some slight differences in the transom area.  Get on CL and start looking around the surrounding areas.  when i was looking for my 170 I would search for private sellers only.  Then one day I did a search for dealers and I found a good deal on a little honey of a 170.  It will really come down to how well each boat was cared for.  Simple things like not resealing loose screws result in a soft deck or transom.  Of course the trailer and engine have to be considered too.  I'm in Clearwater so I'm not far away from ya.  I'll keep an eye out for ya.  if you find something you like I'd be more than happy to go look at it with you.

Thanks for the info guys!  I'm sure I'll like the 19-6 as is a mini-me of the 222, which I am quite familiar with.  A friend has one that I'll be fishing/lobstering on in a week or so (been on that boat for 30 years).

Now I need to build a "nest" for it, then I'll be ready to buy.  Have already been looking on CL to get an idea of availability and prices.  One nice thing about AS verses Mako or SC is that they don't have the snooty following as the others and the prices aren't as high.  I'm not looking at it for eventual resale value as I intend to have it until I'm too old to chew clabber (whatever that is).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clabber_(food)  Living in Dunedin, doesn't surprise me you have possible been exposed to clabber.  Scot's eat Haggis too...
