I have my Explorer on a Rolls-Axle 7K Tandem axle all aluminum trailer.  Mine is a single engine with a hard top.

7K or better... their a heavy rig... and I will tell you, I did not have brakes on mine until last year when I overhauled the trailer, then went with the Kodiak Stainless brakes and new actuator.. what a difference stopping this big girl in a hurry...

Yeah Marc is right unless you have a big tow rig brakes will help pull in the reins when you get on the binders.  I'd have to find the scale ticket to be sure, but on my old trailer I was right around 6K on the axles.  So full of fuel and gear it is easy to get her up to or over 7K.  But keep in mind this was on a steel galvanized trailer.  My "new to me" Rolls weighs in at 650 lbs empty which is almost half the weight of my old trailer.

thanks guys -  appreciate the detail  -   did your boat that weighed 6K on the axles have a hard top as well?
