How difficult a rebuild would this be?
« on: January 25, 2014, 09:23:59 AM »
I have a close friend that has a 23 ft bow rider hull, with bunk trailer, euro transom, I/O(blown up) :pukel: ...He broached the idea with me about a week ago about redoing the hull for fishing, coastal..that said, he is looking to keep the euro style transom but re-inforce it and add lower box and flotation to install an outboard(200-250hp)wants to cut the inside walls out at the mid-front and convert to center console..leaving the front seat area as is for the most part. Hull has a 72 gallon fuel tank in the floor, good shape...I'm leaning toward telling him to just find a C/C hull and re-do it if it needs it...that the cost of doing a build like this would run much more than just re-building a C/C hull...but I figured I'd throw the idea out here and see how the group bats it around  ...
Thanks :salut:

How about some pics, Gary?  My concern is that you can pick up a CC project hull for almost nothing - and start off ahead of where you are with this other boat.  I think adapting a non-CC boat would be more effort and more $$$ than starting with a CC boat if you are going to do a full rebuild.  A quick check on eBay shows a bunch of CC boats for sale for under $1000 - including Dusky, Proline, and Robalo.  IMHO, you would be effort and money ahead to start with one of those versus trying to convert the bow rider...   http://www.ebay.com/sch/Boats-/26429/i. ... _udhi=1000

Ditto on what you both think. Gonna end up a royal PITA, plus a lot of money and a LOT of labor.

Tough resale too.

Would sell it as is and pick up an old CC :thumright:

That was my thought, just get a center console hull...told him best bet would be sell the hull on the trailer, the outdrive would have some value...re-invest in a C/C hull and a trailer to fit it and then rebuild whats needed :thumleft: At least this way he would have a sellable boat for later, not trying to sell an otherwise non-traditional boat  ...Told him the value wouldn't be there in the end..I'll throw a pic on here if I can get him to send me one..
