wiring a Faria fuel gauge
« on: November 07, 2013, 10:01:35 PM »
Did a search but didnt come up with anything specifically-
I have a yamaha wiring harness, Faria gauge, and an electric fuel sender...

On the gauge- I am run a wire from the GROUND post to my NEG bus bar, a wire from the S post to the fuel sending unit,,, and then from the I post- it says to connect this to an Ingnition feed from the engine/key switch....

is this as simple as finding a hot wire that only has juice when the key is on? or can I run it directly to the POS bus bar I have- that only works when the battery switch is on? (I realize the gauge would always be registering when the batteries are turned on... (if anyone knows off the top of thier head which color wire in the harness I can patch into, I have the bullet connectors and can easily splice into the harness).

Thanks!

Gonna go ahead and thank SB because I know he knows! haha!

Hi Chris...

Yellow from the Yam harness to I, pink from the sender to S, G you can pull from the tach or any handy ground.

I'm watching football...

   Funny SB!  Me too, but thankfully I have minimal vested interest in the game except I want the skins to lose (as if my G-men ACTUALLY have a snowball's chance in hell).

yup, pretty much.  You do NOT want to wire it directly to your battery switch.  I'd trust SB with the wire colors (I don't know yammies).  Generally you want the gauge to light up either with the nav light circuit or with the ignition switch circuit.  Most diagrams will say rig the gauge light to the same ignition switch hot lead that you connect to the "I" post, but if you think about it the gauges really only need to light up when it's dark and you never want to waste precious battery juice during daylight hours.  Wiring the gauge lights to your nav lights is smarter alternative b/c it FORCES you to turn on your nav lights once it's too dark to see your gauges well...kinda makes it dummy-proof.

Ryan, I picked the Vikes in our pool (hey, they shoulda beat the Cowboys), but also 65 point over/under, so I want scoring as well!

Yes, backlighting ALWAYS to the nav lights...

I may be a Gator and an Illini, but this what I wanted to get...yes, I'll say it, get the Noles in the NC!

Time the NC made it's way back to Florida... :thumright:

OT:

Know Oregon had a bad game, but wasn't real impressed with either of those teams. Stanford's QB basically had one pass all night. Their running game was the defense....move the chains, eat clock. They had some big boys though.

FSU would dominate either one at a neutral site. Bring on 'Bama!

We'll start a CFB thread in chum....

Agreed Scotty.  Tried to watch a little, but I couldn't stop yawning!  Hate to say it, but the Vikes/Skins was a WHOLE lot more exciting!  Go figure...
