New to me Osprey
« on: September 02, 2013, 09:12:27 AM »
Years ago a buddy of mine had the same boat; Osprey 200. We took that thing everywhere from 30 miles offshore to shallow water in the keys. So , i got one for myself this year. Its an 04 and has its share of dings and dents but will serve its purpose fine. The main issue is the previous owner left bad fuel in it and Ive been fighting to somehow clean the tank. drained tank, added non eathanol fuel, new racor with drain bowl and im about fed up. Runs great than bogs down and have top drain the bowl of water and nasty crap.
Some say just keep running and it will eventually clear up, other say have it cleaned professionally.

So far already removed bowrail and took off all graphics... more to come.

Welcome Dano.  I had a 1996 Osprey 200 - it truly was a great go-anywhere boat.  I'm sure you will be happy with it.  As far as your gas - I agree with those that say have it professionally cleaned and be done with it.  Nothing worse than nagging repetative problems to take the fun out of a good boating experience.

I had the tank in my 245 professionally cleaned.  Nasty stuff was living in there.  Your two options are have it professionally cleaned....  or spend a bunch of cash building a circulating pump and filter system.  Well I guess three is a new tank but thats not an option! :)

I only run non ethanol in my boats now.  By the time you factor in the cost of that additives you have to buy with non ethanol and the possible headaches it can create...  its just not worth it to run ethanol....

Welcome!
I spent a few bucks and had it done right.
I do not like things not 100% correct.
Mine was all cleaned and the tank polished.
Really only one bad thing. That was that I was sitting on 80 gallons of old gas.
The gauge was damaged and I didn't know.
Upgraded the sender, thanks Lewis!
The place I took mine to did a great job.
I think I posted about it here.
We also did the carbs after everything was cleaned out and polished.
Boat is running like a top now.

I had my tank done this spring. Try to get the schematic of the tank from the manufacturer. I did and found the baffles and was able to clean them off. I had the boat put on a hydraulic trailer and first emptied all old gas, bout 60 gallons.  Then took the house to the corner and tilted the trailer to get every bit. Finally put 5-10 gallons in and rolled the boat around on the hydraulic trailer to get all the gunk off the bottom and off the baffles. Fuel has been spot on since. I second the replacement of your sender at this time.

Damn spell check on my ipad. I meant to say took the suction hose to corner of tank and tilted the trailer( hydraulic) back and forth to get every last bit of bad gas.
