Siphoning gas from a AS 175
« on: August 23, 2013, 01:03:26 AM »
I've got a AS 175 and left the plug out. I've got contaminated gas and tried siphoning by taking the end of the hose off and pumping the bulb. Thought I'd get continuos flow but  was mistaken. Any one got a good idea on how to get gas out of a boat? . Thanks

Is the end of the fuel line lower than the pickup in the tank?

You may have an anti-siphon valve on the top of the tank that is doing what it's designed to do also.

No a-valve and the lower end of hose will allow siphoning to occur. I do it to my tank in the winter months.

Good luck.

I was able to drain 30+ gallons from my 245 by doing the same thing.  I had to add another hose to get the end below the level of the tank.  It will go slow but it should work.

Thanks for the feed back. Does anyone know what an anti siphon valve looks like on a 1998 175?

Here's a pic of an anti siphon valve.

The valve consists of a stainless ball bearing and spring assembly housed in the section of the fitting with the flats. Looking down the threaded end would reveal the valve if it is present.

This most likely is threaded into the tank pick up tube which exits the tank with a 90 degree bend. It may have a shut off on top also.
A pic of yours would help.

Good luck.
