I had a 115 johnson on mine and she was a pig! maybe 30 on top end.Older motor but still slow. Put a 150XR4 on and woke that bad girl up! Can cruise at 40 all day and and tops out at about 45-47mph with top.

I have an F115 and a T-top and cruise around 27mph  WOT 34-36.  I am going to put a 150  on when i get the chance.

The boat was originally rated for 185 hp.  150 hp would do well.

If your ride is dry internally (transom, stringers, deck) she should be a ball 'o fire with a Yammie F115. Research your prop....keep that new motor money in your pocket :thumright:

A member here named fishcole claimed 40mph+ with a Yamaha F115. For the sake of conversation, some years had lower max HP ratings. My old 73' was rated for 140HP

Thanks for all the input and @ Marshmarlow isn't the F115 a 4 stroke 440 lb engine ?  That being said I am looking at trying to find a 130HP 2 stroke that should be in the 370 lb range. I am thinking 29-31 cruise and 40 WOT with the correct wheel. Those numbers I would be Happy with... I was told by a local boat builder that the problem with putting new motors that match max HP rating on older hulls is that they were rated different and it over powers the hull resulting in damage to the stringers / transome.

Yeah the older ones were hp rated at the powerhead and the new ones are at the prop. Big difference!
