Lowrance NDC-4 NMEA Cable Pinout
« on: June 12, 2013, 11:50:35 AM »
I saw it in a topic here, but then I could not find it.  So I decided to post this with a subject that could be easily found.  Not to mention the Lowrance cable does *not* come with any of this information.  Thanks Lowrance.

The Lowrance NDC-4 NMEA 0183 Cable has a 4 pin connector and 3 wires.

The pinout is:

Yellow: NMEA Transmit (or GPS out)
Orange: NMEA Receive
Black: Ground

Connections are easy to other devices once you realize that (regardless of color code):

The Yellow Wire [NMEA Transmit] connects to the RECEIVE WIRE on the Device.
The Orange Wire [NMEA Receive] connects to the TRANSMIT WIRE on the Device.
The Black/Ground wires should be connected together.

Good job Joe.  And just to be sure you get a good ground, run the grounds from both units to the boat ground bus.

I edited my post to add the (or GPS out) to the yellow wire on the cable.  The reason here was because I wired my Lowrance Elite 5 DSI to my DSC VHF Radio last night.  The VHF radio instructions said to connect the GPS out on my chart plotter to a specific wire on the radio, and did not mention anything about NMEA.
