Grouper Slumber Partyt
« on: June 03, 2013, 11:08:32 AM »
First grouper trip of the season yesterday in my newly repowered 250CCP. Headed out of Hurricane Pass for a 40 mile run out and was delighted to be able to hold a conversation while cruising at 30MPH.  The four stroke is so much quieter than the old 2 stroker.  Fuel economy is greatly improved as well.  We picked up one keeper around 40 miles, but the fish just were not there like last July and August.  I wonder if the water temperature was a little too cool (around 71.5 in 110 feet of water).  After about 60 minutes at 40 we moved in to one of my 20 mile spots and was looking at 79 degrees @ 80 feet.  I'm guessing the fish missed us since our last trip back in 2012 because they were damn near jumping in the boat.  We limited out in just over three hours.  Glad to have the freezer restocked because I was running low.

That's just for Gag, Roy.  The rest is 4/1.  Excellent catch Mark!   :thumleft:

It's about as f'ed up as you can get. Gag is opened in Taylor, Will-kill-ya and Franklin Counties.

Red snapper opened this Sunday. Unfortunately I'm headed to Half Dome this week. The way they're dying out there, I may not come back.

Good on ya Mark.  :thumleft:
