Suzuki 225 not getting full rpm
« on: May 08, 2013, 03:05:33 PM »
I have a 94 Suzuki 225 2 stroke. I usually cruse it at 3/4 throttle which is around 4500 rpm aprox. 24 knots. with full throtle being 5200-5500 rpm. Aprox. 28 knots.  Last time I took out the boat I could only get 4000 rpm at full throttle, 18 knots. I recently had the shifter cable replaced and thought that Mabey it stretched out and needed to be adjusted but when I pulled the cover and put it in full throttle the the throttle was hitting the stop.

Any ideas????

I'm not being a wise guy here but I spent countless hours with one member here who had us rebuilding his engine online because of poor performance when he finally realized he was dragging a garden salad and barnacle village on the bottom of his hull. So do you keep the boat in the water? If the bottom is clean; that's a pretty signifigant drop in full throttle RPM's. First place to start is look at the spark plugs for water or fouling and we'll go from there. I could bombard you with lots of to do's but lets go through this one hurtle at a time.
