Help with weight dispursement ?
« on: April 28, 2013, 07:47:24 AM »
ADMIN: I moved this thread to the props forum.

I have a 96 osprey 225 is there anyway I can do something so if me and my wife go to the same side of the boat the boat won't feel like it is going to tip over?  My wife is not a  :pig:  so don't go there.  I am learning the trim tabs when we are running but when we are fishing or in quartering seas everyone has to stay in there spot or it feels like we are going to roll over.  I was wondering if I put some sand in the compartment behind the anchor locker which is a giant hold with nothing in it and if something does go in it I have to get my six year old to get it out because it is four feet deep and goes down to the V.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I do have a t - top which might be making it a little top heavy but it shouldn't be this bad.  Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

 Hmmmm, I will go out on a limb here.....leaving it on the trailer might help  Honestly there is not much you can do about that, I put softener salt in my large bow compartment to keep my 170AS bow from bouncing so much when I am by myself in the boat, It also brought my scuppers in the rear up out of the water at dock (big motor on transom). Other than a bigger boat with a wider beam I think you are SOL.

A 1996 Osprey is rolling THAT much?  Any Depp V is going to that to a point but my 245 Explorer (same hull but 2' longer) is rather stable and I have a hard top....  my 170 on the other hand...  now that baby will list!    How much fuel do have on board?  The fuel tank is at the lowest CG of the boat.  More fuel say half tanks or so will help.  I believe that model holds 100 gallons so 50 gallons will add 350 lbs of ballast.  As already mentioned the wider the boat the more stable it is... but I think your beam is 8'6" now.  aIf you go any wider you would need a permit to trailer it.
