Went shopping yesterday- stay tuned!
« on: March 16, 2013, 10:01:25 PM »
I don't get "off island" much but a good friend was able to help me get to Bristol, RI yesterday to pick up my tank from Luthers Welding.  Those guys are old school all the way and really put out a top notch product by the looks of things.  While I was there, (to save on shipping of course), I stopped by Jamestown Distributors and picked up a set of Bennett M120's.  And since West Marine was running a deal on the Garmin 541s with a rebate on the g2 card, I figured why not?  Anyways, I've got my work cut out for me and I spent a lot of money but I live on an island so it was either travel or waste money on freight. Either way I think I'm gonna get in trouble when the bills start coming in...

Thanks gran.  Yeah, that tank is top notch.   I'll start a thread with the whole install when I can find the time to start it.  Planning on the Pascoe method.  Stopped at Lowes along the way and found some PVC 1/4" x 1 1/2" x 8' strips.  "Lattice" it's called.  Planning on four of those lengthwise on the bottom of the tank with 5200, and then screwing the 4 tabs into wooden cleats on the sides of the tank coffin to provide extra stability.

The PVC lattice strips are all you need as a bed. Chocks as you describe up top. But not treated lumber, as the impregnated copper napthanate will induce galvanic corrosion...look to cypress or white juniper.

The premise of the Pascoe method...less is more. Room to breathe...reduce moisture.

We've recently seen what heavy stirrups/rubber can do to a tank when tightly bound and foamed.

Looking forward to your install!

Very nice Dan!!  The bills come in when you have to fill that thing... I tear up when I have to fill up my Osprey 245!  Hope your install is smooth.
