215DC Valve for baitwell/raw water washdown
« on: February 14, 2013, 09:08:57 PM »
I've heard this is a problem sometimes.  The valve to switch the pump on my boat from baitwell to rawwater washdown seems to be stuck.  I have owned the boat a few months and have tried to switch it a couple of times but I get scared that it's gonna break.  Any words of wisdom???

This is the valve my DC uses. I replaced both of them...

The Y valve can be disassembled and lubricated.  Use a good grease recommended by the valve manufacturer (or vaseline if you have nothing else).  It should not take an abuncance of torque to switch the valve position.  If lubrication doesn't help, a new valve is in order.  Be careful not to damage the internal O ring seals when you disassemble it.  If you do not like the valve set-up, you could mount another pump, wire it to a power source on your console and put in a T fitting so you can draw both pumps directly from your current through hull pick up.
