Aquasport newbie here with questions
« on: February 21, 2013, 10:31:27 PM »
Hello all. I just bought myself a 1981 Osprey 170 in great condition.....but with a ragged out trailer...for $1,900.
So far I love it. It has a Johnson Javelin 100hp which doesn't like to start when cold but once she's going the boat goes like a scalded ape! On my first cruise I did 17 miles with throttle varying from idle to WOT probably about 10 of the 17 miles were at 60% throttle. I used 6.3 gallons of gas, meaning I averaged 2.7 mpg. Does that seem right?
Also I plan to turn the storage under the seat in front of the console into a livewell. Planning to pull water in from a hole through the transom using something like this.. http://www.advantagemarinesupply.com/se ... IGH/Detail.
I'm just wondering where to dump the overflow water from so that the sound of water trickling out of the boat all day doesn't get annoying. Or do I just have to live with it?

Looks like you have a spot already between the vent and the letter "F" down at the water line.

Our beloved mod is right. But it is a 1" fishbox drain. Change it to 1 1/2 inches, you'll be golden. Want your discharge to be 2X the inlet size of 3/4.

Run the discharge out the transom below the waterline. As far as the pickup, as opposed to the link you posted I would look into a bronze high speed pickup for the bottom of the boat. Don't forget to get seacocks for both the pickup and discharge.
