hull thickness and drain question

I was thinking about installing one of these (drain plugs) in my 22-2.



 (I know you hate them Bob)... I was wondering if anyone knew the general thickness of the hull so I could start my plan for what kind of material I will need to add to the bilge area to compensate the thickness of the thruhull. A couple other questions:
1. for those who have installed this themselves.. did you basically bevel out the bilge side so the nut would sit flush and then add either filler or a layer of glass over the nut?
2. do the screws you install from the bottom-side (outside) act as ''tensioners" to keep the nut tight on the bilge side?

You know Chris, when I left Stamas to go to PL, I brought one of them with me just to remind me of that fact!!

That one looks a bit different than the Perko one I used to install.  The problem with our installation was that the hull thickness was much greater than the available threads on the t/hull portion, so I would first have to use around an 1 7/8" hole saw, drilling down maybe 3/8" to get the clearance for the backing nut.  Of course, being solid glass, you can't just pry out the glass you've just cut, it comes out in pieces, and leaves an uneven surface for the nut to seat against.  So you get out your die-grinder and do your best to even out that surface...in the not so friendliest of work areas!

My 1991 210 WAC  hull measured 3/4" thick where the thru hull for the raw water pickup is located in the bilge.
