Looked at a 1986 170 today
« on: January 05, 2013, 09:01:43 PM »
Went to look at a 170 today that I found on CL.  It is just the hull and trailer with no motor.

The good:

The decks are solid.

it hasn't been molested in any way or had a bunch of holes drilled in it.

Transom seems solid and straight

Fuel tank looks Ok and no fuel smell

Has a battery switch and two batteries

all the hardware hinges and screws are nice and tight  with evidence of lots of 5200sealing them up

Steering cable and shift cables are new and feel really nice and smooth

Nice flip flop seat

has a flasher depth sounder!

Bimini  top

It's named Reel Crazy!

The bad:

has a few cracks in the gel.

some cracks around one of the engine bolt holes

orange extention cord used to wire the new bilge pump

has bottom paint on it

broken windshield

Trailer will get it home but is not worth putting and $$ into it due to rust on the galvanized frame.

A gallon of bleach would do wonders for that boat.

Yup that is the one.  I've tracked down two more...  one is a complete running boat but it has a lost tittle issue.  The other is at a dealer and looks clean.

Scott it's a pretty good deal.  As far as I'm concerned the trailer will get the boat home and  move it around a bit but is not worth rebuilding..  so I'd say it only brings a $100 to the deal.

The guy stole my color theme - could be patent infringement or something
Didn't see a year on it though.

The red gunwale caps and trim on the console is a bit much though.
