Now that I look at it the threaded end is there because this is a threaded thru hull fitting that was either stock or someone replaced the original with this.

I have another stupid question that is directly related. Is there an actual bilge pump on these boats? And if so how would you access it?

I'm rebuilding a 1967 222 now, and there is/was no bilge pump.  In fact, there wasn't even a bilge.  I believe yours is the same.
