How much water does an aquasport 29EX draw?
« on: March 18, 2014, 07:50:42 AM »
Hi, I am trying to make all the pieces fit together to do a sea trial, buy the boat, and not put her back in dry dock, but my slip won't be ready for another month. I have a temp slip to use, but there is only about 1.5' of water at low tide. I feel this is not enough. So I am trying to find out how water I need in order to keep running gear safe. Thanks!

Wow.. I have no idea but would guarantee that 1.5 feet is not enough, assuming it's an inboard.  I guess I would look for a low tide minimum of 3 feet to be safe, if I had to guess.  But its just that.. a guess.  I am sure someone else will come by with the stats on your 29 draft wise.

Well, according to this '87 Word document from AS themselves, the 29 draws 30" (including props)...so even 3' is cutting it close...

For future reference, you can often find data in the Photo Gallery forum under "documentation" and then the model you are looking for. We don't have every one but are always on the lookout.

Good luck.

Bruce, the 290 is a typical "old school" straight twin inboard, no prop pockets, so she draws quite a bit more than a boat that has prop pockets.

Mine lives on a shallow creek...depending on fuel, load, etc, somewhere between 2'-4" and 3' will get you out.  Various pilings, PVC channel markers, etc are marked along the way, and who knows how accurate they all are, but taking the average of what I see on them as far as water depth, vs. what I see/feel when leaving at less than full tide, I'd say that 30" draft posted above is pretty dead on.

Personally, if my Furuno starts blinking because its too shallow to read depth, that's right about the time I'm going to start churning mud.  Happy coincidence I guess.

The channel that actually leads to my slip is so narrow/shallow around it that when I come in on a low tide, in front of my boat the water is about 6-10 feet closer to shore than behind my boat...I'm literally displacing almost all of the water, so it rushes out of my way and then fills in the hole behind me.  Pretty funny to watch peoples face's when they ride out for the first time and looks like we're sucking all of the water out of the creek as we go by.
