Another winterizing question...
« on: November 02, 2012, 02:09:18 PM »
I live in Jacksonville , Florida and we get rather cold winters here.  Some years I have seen low teens to single digit temps, other years maybe 20/30's.  Usually we get 3-10 days of hard freeze.  Should I do anything to winterize the '98 Johnson 90 or just leave it as is?  I do plan on using the boat on the "nicer" days throughout the winter if we get any.  In the 6 years I have lived here, every winter has been vastly different so I really can't say what to expect this winter.
Thanks,
Larry

Larry,
All I would do down here is give the motor a good flushing, then trim it all the way down and leave it there.  Lets the water drain as completely as it can.

I do the same here in Gulf Breeze (Pensacola) FL. I have never winterized an engine. I do keep a charger plugged in and crank the engine or engines once a month. One thing I also do is use warm water and flushing muffs. Even on boats with a flushing attachment.

It gets freezing up here also...
