I saw it awhile back.  Makes my stomach churn.
I knew a guy back in the 70s that climbed towers for a living.  He said the worst two things about the job were:
1 - seeing a thunderstorm pop up
2 - leaving your lunch on the ground

That would piss me off...so, what, you have a table setting on top of the beacon?

Interesting comment by the narrator about being no quick way down.  Well, yeah, there is, but...

I have seen that before but it's fun to watch. You would have to be in good shape just to climb that much nevermind that high.

I don't think most of us would do that. I know not me. When I was a kid I climbed a tree and was afraid to climb back down, heck it must of been 25 feet high.

That just corrected two fallacies I held about myself:

1.) I'd like any job with lots of adrenaline rushes.
2.) I'd like to try BASE jumping.

After watching that video, I'd say "false" and "false"...my palms were sweating after I finished that video...wow. So nonchalant, too.

A lot of TV towers are over 2,000 feet high - but most have elevators today.  People have to go up there whenever a light bulb burns out due to FAA rules.  We had to inspect those when I was in government.  Pretty impressive view from up there!  :sunny:   The biggest problem we had was the owners did not want to power down when personnel were on the tower...     They are running million-watt transmitters and don't want to shut down?  The radiation field was so high that it would cause skin burns for the workers.  We finally made it an OSHA issue tied to non-ionizing radiation exposure and insisted the transmitter be shut down when there were workers on the tower.

Sounds like a good job for a helicopter. I would rather repel from the helicopter then try to climb up there. On second thought, I don't want to do either.

There were two 1500+ foot towers just north of Tarpon Springs.... a while back one of them disappeared!  That mush have been fun to take down!   I remember flying by them and since the tower itself was galvanized steel it would be hard to spot on a overcast day...  sometimes you would just see the white antenna on top kind floating on by....  and it would spook me even though I knew it was there...  crazy.    I think that dude climbing that tower had more than one 30 lbs bag hanging from him!
